Fotografi era digital dengan software editing gambar telah membawa perubahan dalam dunia fotografi dengan meningkatnya kesadaran akan sejauh mana hasil foto dapat dimanipulasi. Sebelum era digital ternyata praktek manipulasi foto sudah dilakukan. Faking It: Manipulated Photography Before Photoshop at Metropolitan Museum of Art adalah pameran terbesar pertama fotografi manipulasi sebelum era digital.
Menampilkan sekitar 200 foto yang dibuat antara tahun 1840 hingga 1990 dengan berbagai tema seperti: seni, politik, berita, entertainment dan komersial. Foto-foto dalam pameran ini diubah dengan menggunakan berbagai teknik seperti multiple exposure, combination printing, photomontage, overpainting dan retouching pada negative film atau hasil cetak. Dalam setiap kasus, makna foto secara signifikan berubah dalam proses manipulasi.
Pameran ini dibuka mulai dari tanggal 11 Oktober 2012 dan akan berlangsung sampai 27 Januari 2013. Untuk informasi selengkapnya dapat dilihat di website resmi Metropolitan Museum of Art.
